Birth Difficulties And Childhood Injuries

We aim to ease the pathway to a healthy infancy and later life.

Coming into this world can be a traumatic experience for some babies, despite our best efforts to plan the ideal birth experience.

In addition to this a normal, healthy child will throw themselves into everything with no concern for the risks we see as adults.

Babies can only express themselves by showing distress, either with crying excessively, a poor sleep pattern, intestinal distress or feeding difficulties.

Osteopaths are trained to assess babies and children to discover the subtle strain patterns these experiences can produce and using safe gentle techniques like Cranial Osteopathy, can restore normal function.

Gentle cranial techniques applied to infants can help address issues like feeding difficulties and intestinal pain, promoting a soothing effect on the baby’s digestive system aiding sleep.

As our children grow they become involved in sports, go to activity clubs, spend hours sitting in one place at school, all of which can create painful experiences for them, without the addition of the obvious injuries.

Older children are often equally difficult to interpret when they are in distress. Parents may experience behavioural issues, problems at school, sleep problems and nightmares.

At the Ashworth Practice we believe in creating a safe secure environment for your child to be treated in. We often treat children while they play or read. Babies can also be treated as they feed or have a cuddle from a family member.

Childrens’ bodies are changing so fast they often don’t need a lot of treatment before they respond, letting them get on with living the rest of their lives without pain.

F.A.Q.s

How soon after birth can I bring my baby?

We prefer to see babies as soon as possible after a difficult birth.

My child has had a heavy fall, should I bring them to you straight away?

We always advise that any serious injury is checked either at A&E or by a GP before we see them.
